Avian Influenza

Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, has been detected in Onondaga County. This is a highly contagious disease that is transmitted through contact between birds.

However, dogs and cats can become infected if they eat the carcass of an infected bird. For this reason, please monitor your pets outside to ensure they do not come in contact with the virus.

If you keep chickens, ducks, or other outdoor birds, please make sure they are contained and cannot come in contact with wild life infected with avian influenza.
